Van der Leeuw (1952 - ) received his PhD from the University of Amsterdam and has held numerous teaching positions before coming to ASU in 2004. He was brought to ASU to begin the SHEC program at that time. His interests are in human relationships with the environment, systems theory, and reconstructing ancient technologies through ethnoarchaeology. He has worked in many regions archaeologically and focuses on ancient pottery technology.
