Lemonnier (1948 - ) teaches at the University of Paris and has done much of his fieldwork in Papua New Guinea. He focuses on the ethnology of technological style and has written extensively on using chaine opératoire in the archaeological and ethnographic study of technological processes. Lemonnier also examines the meaning in technological choices. He criticizes Tilley, Hodder, and other symbolic archaeologists for ignoring technology. He is also head of a research team at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique.
