Hegmon is a graduate of the University of Michigan and works in the American Southwest. One of her areas of specialization is Mimbres pottery (she works on the Eastern Mimbres Archaeological Project) and she is interested in the social strategies of style. Her theoretical approaches include agency and gender archaeology. Hegmon has argued for an abandonment of paradigm wars and an acceptance of the current state of “processual-plus” archaeology.
